Marilyn was born and raised in Detroit and is the founder of Griffin Gardens, a garden and community space adjacent to her childhood home. She has been a Garden Resource Program member since 2020 and has participated in many of their offerings such as their volunteer Farm Days, Fruit planting class, Farm Dinner Series, and was a featured garden in their 2021 Annual Farm and Garden Tour. Marilyn also DJ’d the 2022 Farm and Garden Tour afterparty in 2022, was one of the 2022 awardees for The Detroit Black Farmer Land Fund, a guest speaker for their Urban Roots Community Garden course, and a participant at their Grown in Detroit food stand at Eastern Market. Marilyn has many interests including rescuing stray cats, pollinator conservation, neighborhood beautification, reading, photography, and music. Marilyn has a BA from Florida A&M University and an MA from Wayne State University.
