WIIKONDIWAG - They Feast Together

In honor of Indigenous Peoples’ Day we are opening our farm for the last dinner of the season, prepared by Chef Elena Terry. Not only will this be a celebration of Indigenous culture and resiliency, but also the indigenous leaders and organizers in our community doing the work towards indigenous food sovereignty, cultural revitalization, and reconciliation. Please note this dinner is only for members of the Garden Resource Program. Tickets are on a pay-what-you-can sliding scale of $10-$100.

Elena Terry is the Executive Chef/Founder of Wild Bearies, a non-profit community outreach catering organization that services participants overcoming Alcohol and other Drug Abuse Issues or emotional traumas. One of her goals has been to develop mentorship programs that help build stronger communities within the Indigenous Food Sovereignty movement. Developing the Native American Food Sovereignty Association’s Food and Culinary mentorship program in 2020, 2021 James Beard Foundation Legacy Network Advisor, and as a 2021 NDN Collective Changemaker Fellow (Great Lakes Region) Elena emphasizes the healing nature of working with traditional indigenous ingredients while building community. Elena is a proponent for a holistic approach to traditional food systems and advocates for sustainable agriculture on an international level. She also believes in the power of education and spends significant time teaching about traditional foods, food systems and performing outreach. As a seed to table chef, Elena develops relationships with tribal and local/community organic growers and producers while maintaining partnerships with numerous tribal farms. Elena has represented Indigenous Foods in spaces such as Farm Aid, Taste of Madison, Smithsonian and Femmestival. As far as building a network supporting Wild Bearies, Elena has developed partnerships with James Beard Foundation, Smithsonian, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, US State Department, Intertribal Agriculture Council, American Indian Foods Program, Advocates for Urban Agriculture, UW Systems and Rural Urban FLOW to name a few. Elena started as a traditional and ceremonial cook, is a butcher and wild game specialist and prefers open fire/outdoor cooking.
